CALLING…
SIGNIFICANCE OVER SUCCESS
Often so much weight is put on the word “Calling” that it is hard to understand or it seems out of reach for many people. What do you think it means to have a calling? If you already know what God has called you to do with your life, how are you pursuing it? What keeps you from living out your calling?
…VALUE
You were put here for a reason, with your unique personality, skills, passions, and point of view. You’re meant to do very unique work in this world. So many of us go through life with a sense that we’re not living up to our full potential. An understanding that there’s more to life. In Ephesians 4:1 Apostle Paul says:
“therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called”
The word “worthy” when translated into Greek is Axios. Axios means weight, assigning a matching value (worth-to worth), as the assessment in keeping with how something “weighs in” on God’s balance – a scale of truth. This statement implies that your calling is on a balance of the same equal value or worth to God’s truth.
“Look I am setting a plumb line among my people” (Amos 7:8)
A plumb line is used by bricklayers to make sure they lay a brick wall straight & true. God measures us by His standards, His word and no other
…HOW DO I KNOW?
Many wonder what is God’s calling for their life but have no clue where to start to find the answer. The reason this question is so significant is that the work we do is important to God. The Scripture tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
…PURPOSE
Your Calling Is Not for You, Your Calling Is Not from You, Your Calling Is Not Future Tense.
…ACTION
God prods us into action in many ways. You may be sensing the Lord prodding you to do something different. For example:
Jacqueline, age 21, said: “I’ll finish college this year, and I really want to do something significant with my life. I know God has given me gifts, but I don’t know exactly what they are or what I should do when I graduate. I’m trying to figure it all out, but I’m feeling pretty confused.”
Bill, age 35, experienced a wake-up call in his life: “My job pays well, but it’s really stressful. I recently took a hard look at my work and realized that I have been sacrificing not only my health but also my family, for a job that really isn’t making much of a positive contribution in this world. Success isn’t what I thought it would be. I need to find out what God put me on earth to do, but I don’t know how to go about figuring that out.”
At 45, Linda entered a new chapter of life: “My children are out of the house now, and I’m finding I don’t really know who I am and what the Lord wants me to do with my time. Raising kids was my calling, but there’s got to be more He has for me to do now. I’m just not sure what to do!”
These types of life situations, as well as many others, create a sense of needing to “do something” to find work that fits and brings a sense of purpose to our lives. You may be feeling restless energy that is propelling you to take action. Don’t you think that something so valuable deserves to be at-least pondered on and examined?

“EACH TIME A MAN OR WOMAN STANDS UP FOR AN IDEAL OR ACTS TO IMPROVE THE LOT OF OTHERS, OR STRIKES OUT AGAINST INJUSTICE, HE SENDS FORTH A TINY RIPPLE OF HOPE, AND CROSSING EACH OTHER FROM A MILLION DIFFERENT CENTERS OF ENERGY AND DARING. THOSE RIPPLES BUILD A CURRENT THAT CAN SWEEP DOWN THE MIGHTIEST OF WALLS OR OPPRESSION AND RESISTANCE” (ROBERT KENNEDY)
